“To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer.”

“To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer.”
This anonymous quote, from a 1982 BBC radio broadcast, reflects the way many people once felt about computers. In 1982, few people owned a personal computer, and only a few more had much confidence in them. Since that time, however, almost a billion personal computers have been purchased.
Today, the majority of Americans owns a computer. The number is expected to rise as computers become easier to use, more services become available via computer, and computer prices continue to fall. Even people who do not own their own computers often can access them through work, schools, libraries, and community centers.
Has the increasingly widespread availability and use of computers changed people’s feelings about them? If so, how?

Yes. People's feelings about computer has most definitively changed since the 80's. Now a days people absolutely love computer's. So much in fact, that society has been come almost dependent on them. With all the advancement's that computers have made in years, and the ease of usage of them. Computer's have made a phenomenal impact on society.
Are people today more optimistic about the impact of computers than people were a generation ago? Why?

Yes. People today have a much more favorable view about computer's. Computer technologically is use in so many things. From car's, cellphone's, t.v.'s  just to name a few. Although, I do think it can work both ways with the view of  computer's can impact us, in a different way than a generation ago. Now everyone knows what computer's are capable of and all the positives that can come from them. I feel that their is some people that might have a negative feeling on the impact computer's could have on us in the future. Becoming to powerful and to dependent on the way we live and go about everyday things.

  1. Society is so very dependent on computers. I wonder what the impact would be if we had to go without for a while.

    1. Almost everything rely's on computers now a days. If we were to go without i think it would having a serious impact on society; with media, news, businesses. To imagine a world in today's society without computers is almost unimaginable. Planes would fall from the sky, people would learn how to get place to place without gps or google maps, people would have to learn how to do math to give correct change in the stores, buy music n go to the movies. o_O LOL
